In fact, this meeting was supposed to take place in December of last year, but French President Emmanuel Macron broke it off. Macron wanted to attend the meeting. President of Azerbaijan refused the four-way meeting due to Macron's pro-Armenian statements.
After Brussels, Ilham Aliyev and Nikol Pashinyan will meet in Chisinau on June 1 within the framework of the European Union meeting. According to Armenian Security Council Secretary Armen Grigoryan's statement to the Armenian media, Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholtz will also attend the meeting in Chisinau. Official Baku has not yet confirmed this news. If the news is true, the German chancellor's participation in the meeting is similar to Baku's official proposal. If the French president insists on attending the meeting and the head of the European Union, Charles Michel, cannot object to it, the participation of Germany, which takes a relatively neutral position on the issues, is one of the alternative options. Of course, Azerbaijan has strategic partners in Europe such as Poland and Hungary, it would be more useful for us if the leader of one of these countries sits next to Macron. But Germany is one of the locomotives of the European Union, and if Macron is at the table, Olaf Scholtz should sit next to him. However, it is not worth expecting a result from the meeting that will be held in the format of five - Ilham Aliyev, Nikol Pashinyan, Charles Michel, Emmanuel Macron and Olaf Scholtz. The best thing is a direct dialogue between the parties, which Nikol Pashinyan avoids.
