Why is Lavrov coming to Baku?

The visit of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to Azerbaijan in the coming days is related to the one-year anniversary of the signing of the "alliance agreement" between the two countries. That agreement was signed between the presidents of Azerbaijan and Russia on February 21 in Moscow. Mariyz Zakharova, Press Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, assessed the agreement as a historical document at a briefing held today. According to Maria Zakharova, the new quality of the relations between the countries was mentioned in this document.

Taking into account the various open and secret provocations of Moscow against Azerbaijan in this one year, the quality of that document, in Zakharova's words, raises doubts. The center that often calls the "leaders" of the Karabakh separatists to Moscow, gives them instructions, and facilitates the transportation of arms, ammunition, mines by the separatists from the Lachin road, cannot be a "strategic ally" of Azerbaijan. Therefore, it is not necessary to evaluate the words of Sergey Lavrov in Baku, but the actions of him and those who ordered him.
