Why did the Kremlin's "triple alliance" idea fail?

The US and India will hold joint military exercises in the near future. Japan was also invited to these exercises. These exercises are related to China's growing pressure on India. Washington supports Delhi in the Sino-Indian conflict. In addition, India is a member of the "Quad" association, which includes the United States, Australia and Japan.

India is one of the countries that receives the most foreign weapons and military equipment in the world. Therefore, India will use all the military equipment it has received in military exercises, including "Rafael" aircraft (made in France) and Su-30 aircraft (made in Russia).

The tension on the border between India and China started in 1962. As a result of the clashes, China took control of 38 thousand kilometers of the border. India said that the territory was occupied. China's late leader Mao Zedong was unhappy with India's sheltering of the Dalai Lama, who fled Tibet. In the following years, the tension in the relationship decreased relatively, but the parties could not define the mountainous part of the border between them. China's current leader Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi have visited China in different years. However, these visits and negotiations did not resolve the dispute. In the Himalayan part of the border, the number of troops has increased. During the conflict in 2020, there were deaths on both sides. After that, the joint economic projects of India and China did not materialize.

As China builds up its military presence in the region, Delhi favors joint military exercises with its allies. Nevertheless, Delhi does not want to depend on Washington in foreign policy. Delhi has not abandoned a balanced foreign policy. "Quad" is not a military block. Delhi has not given up partnership with Moscow. India is a member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, including BRICS, along with Russia and China. However, these associations could not resolve the disputes between China and India. Although the Kremlin tried to form a Russia-China-India tripartite alliance, it failed. This idea belonged to the former Russian Foreign Minister Yevgeny Primakov. Although Delhi is involved in various alliances with China, it is interested in developing cooperation with the West to protect against Beijing.
